Amelia Hallas-Potts

I am studying an OPTIMA CDT in Optical Medical Imaging with healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship split between The University of Edinburgh and The University of Strathclyde. I am primarily based at the Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine in the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre and my PhD project is to develop a new imaging technology for 3D visualisation of ovarian cancer invasion. Although my undergraduate degree was in Biomedical Sciences my PhD project is interdisciplinary with the opportunity to gain expertise in cancer biology, electrical engineering, microscopy, chemistry and business development. The focus of OPTIMA is to “train the next generation of scientific entrepreneurs in healthcare technologies” this complements my participation in the innovation forum whereby I hope to bridge the gap between industry and academia and encourage more scientists to collaborate with industry.
